100 Words Per Mile: 200 Miles, 20k Words

This week’s entry is short, because it’s the end of “Part 2” of the project, in which I reached 200 total miles and about 20,000 words.

It’s also a good demarcation point because I discuss my five-year anniversary, where I was when COVID-19 really became a thing, and the fragility of good news.

Yesterday was my wife and I’s five-year anniversary. I don’t know what element it corresponds to (wood?) because we don’t exchange gifts, but it feels meaningful nonetheless.

It also marks about a year since the coronavirus shut down the NBA, found its way to Tom Hanks, and started the new America we’ve only just begun to work ourselves out of. I can’t believe we’ve lived through a year of this already.

My wife and I were visiting her brother down in Ft. Lauderdale for spring break (yes, I know). We ended up going out to the bar where his girlfriend worked at the time (I know, I know, I know). It was almost impossible to walk through. People were dancing on tables. You couldn’t see the floor from the second story balcony (seriously, I get it, please stop judging me).
